What this article covers: How to send specific sections of a generated description into your theme's tabbed fields, using either metafields or metaobjects, with your own tab titles.

Map Description Sections to Metafields and Metaobjects

Many themes read specific metafields or metaobjects for product page tabs rather than parsing the description for headings. Theme Tab Mapping lets you choose where each description section is written so your theme's tabs fill automatically on import, with the tab titles you want.

Steps

  1. Open Settings and find Theme Tab Mapping.
  2. Select Refresh to load your store's metafields and metaobjects.
  3. For each description section, type the tab title you want shown. This becomes the heading for that section in your theme.
  4. In the Assign dropdown for that section, choose where the content should go. Metaobjects are listed first, then metafields. Leave it on Not mapped to keep that section in the standard description field.
  5. Save your settings.
  6. When you import, the mapped sections are written to the fields or metaobjects you chose, and your theme tabs fill automatically.

Assigning a Section to a Metaobject

When you assign a section to a metaobject, Importier creates the metaobject entry for that product and links it back to the product for you. You do not need to pre-create entries in Shopify admin. The result is that your theme reads structured content from the metaobject rather than a single text field, so tabs can include richer layouts or be reused across products.

Tips

Use this when your theme reads specific fields for product page tabs rather than parsing the description for headings. Save your tab mapping as part of a preset so it carries across stores or brand-specific imports. See Presets.

To set which theme template the products themselves use, see Choose a Theme Template for Imported Products.
