Bulk Edit Product Titles Before Generating Descriptions

Descriptions are written from the product title, so a clean, accurate title produces better, more relevant copy. The Generate Descriptions step includes a Bulk Title Editing Tools panel that applies title transformations to every product you have ticked, in one pass.

Steps

1. Reach the Generate Descriptions step.
2. Tick the products whose titles you want to change. Tick the header box to select all.
3. Open the Bulk Title Editing Tools panel and choose a tool from the Tool list. The available tools are listed below.
4. Set the options the tool shows, such as the text to add or the character numbers to use.
5. Select Modify selected titles. The change is applied to every ticked product.
6. Run more than one tool in sequence if needed, for example change case first, then remove a trailing supplier code.

Available Tools

• Change case: Sentence case, Capitalize Each Word, lower case, lower then Capitalize, UPPER CASE, or toggle case.
• Add text by position: at the beginning, at the end, after a character number, or before or after a piece of text you type.
• Remove characters by position: the first few characters, the last few, a from-and-to range, or everything before or after a piece of text.
• Remove spaces and delimiters: leading and trailing spaces, repeated spaces, all spaces, line breaks, HTML entities, HTML tags, common delimiters such as commas and pipes, and invisible non-printing characters.

Editing a Single Title

To fix just one product, tick it and edit its title directly in the text box that appears in the Product column. The same inline edit is available in the Review Import step.

Tips

A good order for messy supplier feeds is: set the case, then remove a trailing SKU or supplier code with the remove-before-or-after-text tool, then collapse repeated spaces. Run them in that order and most batches come out clean in three clicks.
