Import Options & Review
What this article covers: How to add every product in an import to one or more of your store's manual collections from the Import Options step, why smart collections are skipped, and what happens when you leave the selector empty.

Adding Imported Products to Collections

At the Import Options step you can add every product in the import to one or more of your store's manual collections in a single pass. Open the optional Collections selector, tick the collections you want, and each imported product joins them when it lands in Shopify.

Only manual collections appear

The selector lists your manual collections only. Smart collections are left out on purpose, because they fill themselves from their own rules. When a product matches a smart collection's conditions, Shopify adds it to that collection automatically once the product is live, so there is nothing to choose here.

Selecting collections is optional

By default no collection is selected and imported products are not added to any collection. Reach for the selector when you want a whole batch to share collection membership, for example a supplier drop that should all sit under a single seasonal collection. You can still adjust individual products in Shopify afterwards.

Where this fits in the import flow

The Collections selector sits on the Import Options step, alongside the other choices you make just before review. For the wider picture of every step, see the import flow overview.
