A consumer electronics accessories retailer importing 180 SKUs for Black Friday ran into a problem they had not anticipated. Forty of those products, wireless chargers, USB-C hubs, and laptop stands, belonged in a separate Cyber Monday promotion at different price points. The Black Friday collection needed to go live on Friday morning. The Cyber Monday collection needed to appear on Monday, with different discounts and descriptions emphasising digital compatibility rather than seasonal scarcity.

They had one catalogue and two campaigns. The question was whether to treat them as one event or two.

Cyber Monday started as an online-only event, designed to capture buyers who had not visited physical stores over the Thanksgiving weekend. That origin shapes buyer psychology in ways that still apply in 2026. Cyber Monday shoppers are deliberate online researchers. They are looking for tech, accessories, digital goods, and products where online availability is the point, not just a convenience. Setting up a separate Cyber Monday collection and pricing structure takes that difference seriously and avoids the manual editing sprint that merchants who run a single BFCM campaign face on Sunday night.

## Why Cyber Monday Needs Its Own Collection

Black Friday and Cyber Monday attract the same shoppers four days apart, but in different modes. Black Friday captures urgency: the limited-run, get-it-before-it-goes impulse. Cyber Monday captures deliberation: the buyer who watched prices over the weekend and is now ready to commit to an online purchase.

That difference shows up in product types. Black Friday over-indexes on apparel, homewares, and physical gift items. Cyber Monday over-indexes on electronics, accessories, digital subscriptions, and tech peripherals. According to [Shopify's Cyber Monday resource hub](https://www.shopify.com/blog/cyber-monday), Cyber Monday consistently produces higher average order values on tech and accessories than Black Friday does, because the buyer has had time to decide. If your catalogue spans both categories, running the same collection on both days misses that dynamic.

It also shows up in descriptions. A Black Friday product description leads with scarcity and price: "Black Friday pricing only, while stock lasts." A Cyber Monday description leads with online availability and specification: "Online-exclusive pricing, compatible with all USB-C devices." The information that converts a Cyber Monday buyer is different from the information that converts a Black Friday buyer.

Running a single BFCM collection without a CM-specific sub-structure means either writing the wrong descriptions for Monday or writing two full description sets manually. Importier handles the second scenario: the AI can apply a Cyber Monday-specific persona and urgency framing when you generate descriptions for the CM product set, rather than regenerating the entire catalogue.

<Callout>
Cyber Monday buyers are more deliberate than Black Friday buyers. They have had a weekend to consider the purchase. A description that leads with digital compatibility, technical specifications, and online-only availability converts better on Monday than the urgency-first language that works on Friday.

## Setting Up the Cyber Monday Collection via Import Tags

The cleanest way to manage a Cyber Monday collection separately from Black Friday is to use distinct tags at import time. A product tagged `cyber-monday-2026` belongs to the CM collection regardless of whether it also carries a `bfcm-2026` tag. Shopify's automated collection rules create and maintain both collections without manual product-by-product editing.

There are three product categories to handle:

- **BF-only products:** tagged `bfcm-2026`, excluded from the CM collection
- **CM-only products:** tagged `cyber-monday-2026`, online-exclusive, typically digital or tech-focused
- **Both events:** tagged with both, with CM-specific pricing applied before Monday

The tag setup should happen at the first BFCM import, not after. If you are importing new BFCM stock now, add both tag values in the Tags column of your import file and mark the products that will carry the Monday promotion. Products tagged at import time land correctly in both collection rules without any post-import editing. The pattern of using [tag-driven automated collections](https://importier.app/blog/shopify-product-collections) at import time removes the manual collection management step entirely.

<Steps items="Add a Tags column to your import file: Include both bfcm-2026 and cyber-monday-2026 as comma-separated values in the Tags column for products appearing in both events | Create a collection rule in Shopify admin: Set the automated collection rule to 'product tag contains cyber-monday-2026' — this collection populates automatically as tagged products are imported | Set Cyber Monday products to Draft status: These products should not be visible before Monday morning, so import with Publication Status set to Draft | Import with Importier: The import maps your Tags column directly; Shopify's collection automation fires as each product record is created | Bulk publish Monday morning: Filter by the cyber-monday-2026 tag in the Shopify Products screen and bulk set to Active using the Actions menu" />

For merchants using the [three-pass BFCM import workflow](https://importier.app/blog/shopify-bfcm-stock-import), the Cyber Monday tag layer adds one column to the first-pass product import file. There is no separate import for the tag alone; it travels with the product record.

## Cyber Monday Pricing: Two Scenarios

<Divider label="Pricing Strategy" />

Cyber Monday pricing rarely mirrors Black Friday pricing exactly. Two scenarios are common.

**Scenario 1: Extended BF pricing on remaining stock.** Products that did not sell out on Friday continue into Monday with the same discount or a deeper one. The Compare At Price stays at the original RRP. The current Price drops further on Monday morning. This requires a Pricing export and re-import on Sunday night or Monday before trading begins.

**Scenario 2: CM-exclusive pricing on digital and tech products.** Products that were priced at RRP during Black Friday appear at a discount exclusively on Monday. This requires setting the Compare At Price to the pre-CM retail price and the current Price to the discounted CM price, both at the same time via a re-import.

The Pricing export preset in Importier isolates the price columns from the rest of the product record. A Pricing export filtered to the `cyber-monday-2026` product set, a price column edit, and a re-import with update-existing mode changes only the price fields without touching descriptions, inventory, images, or collection membership.

The error to avoid: setting the Compare At Price to the Friday sale price rather than the original RRP. That produces a product showing a small Cyber Monday discount off an already-discounted Black Friday price, which looks misleading to anyone who browsed on Friday. Set Compare At Price to the true original retail price and let the CM discount stand on its own terms. The specific import configuration error that causes products to appear permanently on sale is covered in detail in [Compare At Price set wrong during import](https://importier.app/blog/shopify-every-product-appears-on-sale-after-import).

[Google's pricing accuracy requirements for Shopping ads](https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/160161) require that the submitted price matches the price on your product page and that compare-at prices reflect genuine prior pricing. Running the CM pricing update through a Pricing export and re-import produces an audit trail in Importier's Import History, which you can review if a Merchant Centre pricing discrepancy surfaces after the event.

The Cyber Monday pricing update should touch only price columns. A re-import that overwrites descriptions or inventory to apply a price change undoes work that took days to build correctly.

## Digital and Online-Exclusive Products for Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday is the natural home for digital-compatible and online-exclusive products: tech accessories, electronics components, software bundles, and products where compatibility with a device the buyer already owns is the key selling point. These products tend to be absent from Black Friday promotions, which lean towards physical gifts, and should be imported with CM-specific product data from the start.

For digital products or services imported to Shopify for the first time during the Cyber Monday season, the import covers the full product record: title, description with technical specifications, variant options, price and compare-at price, tags including `cyber-monday-2026`, and publication as Draft until Monday morning. Importier's 22 Industry Packs include packs for electronics accessories, computer hardware, and home technology, each providing the category attribute types needed for Google Product Category compliance and Shopify taxonomy alignment.

The description for a digital or compatibility-focused Cyber Monday product should lead with what the product works with, then its specifications, then the CM pricing context. "Compatible with all USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 devices. 100W charging output. Online-exclusive Cyber Monday pricing." outperforms a description that leads with scarcity language designed for a physical store context.

Importier's 156 expert personas across 43 industries include tech writer and product reviewer personas calibrated for electronics accessories. Generating CM descriptions with a tech-focused persona rather than a general ecommerce persona produces specification-first language without rewriting every product manually. The AI model selection also matters here: for technical accessory descriptions, models with stronger factual recall tend to produce more accurate specification language than those optimised for creative output.

## Coordinating BF and CM Without Double Work

The risk of running two separate events is that changes made for Black Friday get overwritten when the Cyber Monday import runs, or that the Monday pricing update inadvertently touches Black Friday products that are still selling through. Both errors come from not specifying which products the re-import should act on.

The filter is the `cyber-monday-2026` tag. Before running the Monday pricing update, export only products carrying that tag. The re-import targets the same filtered set. Products carrying only `bfcm-2026` are excluded from the export and the re-import, and their pricing remains as set during the Black Friday import.

  withItems="CM-specific descriptions generated for Monday product set | Tag filter isolates pricing update to CM products only | Draft status enables timed publish per event | CM-exclusive products tagged and ready at first import | BF and CM share one catalogue with two automated collection rules"
/>

Saved import profiles in Importier store the field mapping, the update mode, and the column selection for each import type. A profile built for the CM pricing update stores the Pricing export column set and the update-existing mode setting. Reusing that profile the following November means no re-mapping, no mode selection, and no risk of accidentally choosing create-new instead of update-existing.

<TipBox />

The complete product data checklist before either event goes live is covered in the [BFCM catalogue audit](https://importier.app/blog/shopify-bfcm-catalogue-audit). That audit applies equally to Cyber Monday products: descriptions, GTINs, Google Product Category, and compare-at prices are the four fields that determine whether your CM products appear on Google Shopping and AI shopping recommendations on Monday morning.

Running Cyber Monday as a second event on the same catalogue, with its own collection rule, its own pricing layer, and its own description tone, adds 45 minutes of setup during the initial BFCM import window. That investment means Monday runs from work already done, rather than a manual editing session the night before. The products are ready, the collection is ready, and the pricing update is a single export-and-reimport that takes 20 minutes.
